Theta Chapter at The Ohio State University hosts philanthropy events for speech and hearing
April 29, 2016

This semester, the Theta Chapter at Ohio State University has raised almost $7,000 for philanthropy. They will hold a 5k at Fred Beekman Park in the fall to help reach Delta Zeta’s goal of $5 million in five years for the Starkey Hearing Foundation.

On April 8, 2016 Theta Chapter launched its first annual Battle for Hearing. Located in the aquatic center at The Ohio State University, the event encouraged competition among organizations on campus. Teams placed in random brackets played in one of five different rounds with 4 other teams.

The object of the competition was similar to the board game “Battleship.” Teams were in canoes in the pool where the energy was infectious.
Lyndsay Boyd, Vice President of Philanthropy, said, “My favorite moment was watching the teams get competitive as their captains cheered them on. Everyone enjoyed the game." When asked if she would repeat this event again, Lyndsay responded, “Absolutely.”

On April 16, 2016, the Theta Chapter held another philanthropy event called Hotdogs for Hearing. During the spring football game, the sold hotdogs to the The Ohio State community attending the game. The weather was perfect for a cookout, and almost 400 hotdogs were sold.

Ellie Stokey, a newly initiated member, said, “I really just love making people happy. It was such a beautiful day; I was serving with my sisters, and we were having a great time doing it -- I can't think of a better way to spend my Saturday afternoon!”
